AHL announced that new rules are being implemented for fighting during the game. Stay sharp, these could ultimately impact the future of NHL fights. This is an effort to reduce the number of on-stage clashes, with a focus on eliminating players who fall under the ‘goon’ category.

Most important of all, AHL players won’t be able to fight after a draw.

“Players who enter into a fight prior to, at, or immediately following the drop of the puck for a faceoff, will be assessed an automatic game misconduct in addition to other penalties assessed.”

Clearly, this is an endeavor to remove the stupid fights which occur right from the start, without any rhyme or reason. These brawls are often staged, and it’s likely that no one is going to miss them.
