Six players of the 2016 recruiting class were granted release by Baylor Bears: J. P. Urquidez, Parrish Cobb, Kameron Martin, Jared Atkinson, Patrick Hudson, and Donovan Duvernay.

It was reported that these six signees requested to be released from their letters of intent during sexual assault allegations against them. These same allegations have also resulted in the dismissal of the Baylor coach Art Briles.

Jim Grobe, the acting head coach for the Bears, met with the players prior to the release: “I wanted an opportunity to talk to the signees and also with their families before any releases were given.”

He also added that it wasn’t about whether they were going to give the signees releases or not, but rather the need to go through the channels that has been previously outlined by the NLI.

Baylor Bears

“I am very impressed with the young men who are here at Baylor and on our team,” Grobe added. “We have great student-athletes who are working hard, committed to success and being a part of something special.”

Just this February, Baylor signed another twenty-two players. On September 2nd, the Bears will start their next season by going up against Northwestern State Demons.
